Review: OneDice Supers

OneDice Supers is a brand new addition to Cakebread and Walton's OneDice System and is written by Talon Waite and Peter Cakebread.

Everything needed to play is in this product.

The system is very straight forward: Roll a single D6 and add the appropriate Ability (Strong, Clever, Quick, Power) and an appropriate Skill (from a good size, but not overlong list) and any Gifts (a robust selection of powers) against a Difficulty set by the Gamekeeper or an opposed roll. That's the system in a nutshell.

There also Flaws, Embellishments (think perks) and Covers (a template which is, essentially, a profession you spend half of your skill points on).

I found character creation took less than twenty minutes for a superhero game. And play was smooth and quick.

One very intriguing facet is what OneDice calls Skins, in this case three, which fill in the details of a setting and have rules that alter the rules to one degree or another.

I really can't recommend OneDice Supers enough.

Savage Rifts: Planning My Campaign + Grendel for Savage Worlds

When I first read about Rifts and it's Megaverse, my mind nearly explode with ideas. Just the sound of it's classed fired my imagination: Glitter Boys, 'Borgs, Juicers, and Bursters. Mix that with the potential for anything or anyone to journey through a Rift and interact with and even battle each other. It was like I'd found my home in gaming. But the system, well I didn't understand that things were mage because that's how things had been done at one time. That a DM was supposed to flesh things out, even systems. As much as I was experience unbridled mash-ups, I ended up spending more time trying to make the system work for me. For decades.

Savage Rifts allows me to simply uncork the ideas and I'm going home to the first campaign seed that inspired me...with a bit more.

Covingtown sets on the Ohio River, on the Kent side. It's only a day away from Lexingtown and, if you can find it, with a few days of Psyscape.  Aside from the River Trade, Hunter Rose, The Great and Powerful Grendel controls a vast protoculture plantation to it's south. He even has a private army, The 75, honest to gods mercs from a parallel Earth.

The problem is that several months ago, a stranger named Victor Von Doom has taken an interest in  the protoculture plantation and he has some race that he calls the Invid working for him.

Things are escalating quick.

GRENDEL

• Heavy Armor (3)

Forgotten Realms: Serpent Ring for D&D 5th Edition

In my Forgotten Realms game, I'm creating some magic items to seed my campaign with:

A gift of the Yuan-ti trueblood, Ssyrus Ssssobek, to Warlord Lydda Ironspur. Ssyrus claimed that Seth, himself, gave the ring to his family and assured Lydda that he would see her take the Throne of Cormyr. She was dead within a month.

SERPENT RING
Ring, Rare (requires attunement by a monk)

You gain these benefits while wearing the ring:

• You have immunity to poison damage.

• You have advantage when using the attack action to grapple a creature and escaping from a grapple.

• You gain a +1 to AC

I survived the A to Z Blogging Challenge of 2016.

This was my fifth year and I was better prepared then any previous year. By the time April 1st rolled around, I had posts done through M...and I'm glad, but the lead quickly got swallowed up.

This year was different, because I kept it all story-based, no stats for RPGs of any kind. It was interesting simply flexing my descriptive muscles for a change, but scary too. I just had my words and ideas to fall back on and nothing to hid behind.

I guess it's time to start thinking about next year's theme.

Thanks for visiting!
