A Star Wars One-Shot
I've got another one-shot coming up this week and I've got the roadmap for a Star Wars adventure, but I'm trying to decide which system to use.
I keep looking at Fantasy Flight Games' Edge of the Empire and have been reading through the Beginner Box. I actually, ran this several years ago and it went pretty darn well, but I'm just not really down with the weird dice and trying to remember what symbol means what. I'm not saying it's a bad game or even poorly implemented but I just might be too old of dog to learn new tricks. It's the same reason I don't go for FATE or Apocalypse Games.
I do appreciate that Fantasy Flight rereleased the West End Games' Star Wars 1st Edtion as a slip-case. And I really love that game, but it doesn't have Hit Points, so I'm not sure how I feel about that. There are options for Hit Points in both Mini-Six and D6 Adventure, however.
I've looked quite a bit at White Star too. It would give me a chance to play a White Box game and feels pretty right. At the same time Stars Without Numbers is an option, as well. It would be nice to run any type of OSR game for a change.
Heck, I've even been looking at Traveller/Cepheus Engine, which I've never run or played.
Additionally, I've dug out my Star Wars Saga Edition books published by Wizards of the Coast.
Finally, I'm knocking around Tiny Frontiers for TinyD6. It's pretty attractive because we could pick up and start playing pretty darn quick.
I'd be glad for any input you might have. I'm trying to have my mind settled by Monday to have time to fully prep everything. If it's WEG d6 or TinyD6 I won't worry with pregens.
Whatever I do, Jedis will not be an option. I'd like to run something grittier to honor The Mandalorian (Chapter 8 was amazing). Also, I won't see The Rise of Skywalker until Sunday night, so no spoilers please.

I've just started looking at Tiny Frontiers, would be interested in hearing more about how it plays. SWN is an awesome game/system, but not sure it has the cinematic combat feel that is found in Star Wars, SWN combat is very dangerous.
Consider Star Wars: Galactic Adventures available free on Wizardawn. Sounds like what you want.
There's a Microlite 20 Star Wars hack.
@Brutorz Bill, The game runs by rolling 2d6 with 5 or 6 counting as a success. All weapons do 1 point of damage. There are exception based "feats" that give you Advantage (roll 3d6) or Disadvantage (roll 1d6).
You get 2 actions per turn and can Aim so that you succeed on a 4, 5, & 6. Starting Hit Points are based on Heritage (Race) and are usually between 5 & 8. My group, completely new to it, made characters in less than a half an hour. It's an amazing game, IMO.
@Luke G, I will check that out. Thank you.
@Jeff Jones, Oh, I'll check that out too.
Thanks for the overview, I had missed the part where you could Aim and succeed with a 4. Was the all weapons do 1 point an issue for your group?
@Brutorz Bill, no, it really wasn't. There is an optional rule that give you variable weapon damage and if your roll two 6's you deal 2 damage. Also, there are Traits that boost it, but you have to decide to have Disadvantage to deal 2 damage.
Additionally, and what I find most intriguing is the the author suggests handing out extra damage though cool maneuvers or descriptions of your actions. Which I dig.
Per RAW, there is no benefit for Armor, though a Trait provides extra Hit Points that need to be fixed for later use. However, as above there are optional rules for Armor too.
While I am very used to variable damage, I actually don't mind that a dagger hurts you with the same impact as a shotgun, y'know?
How weapons differentiate is that light weapons deal damage to enemies within 5 feet; heavy weapons deal damage to anyone within 10 feet and ranged obviously is designed for enemies beyond 5 feet.
I now have Tiny Dungeon and Tiny Frontiers! Fun looking games. Looking forward to seeing your future posts about it.
@Brutorz Bill, Cool. I'm leaning heavily toward doing my Star Wars one-shot with it. SInce I'm planning on the PC's being Storm Troopers, I think it will give me a quick way to build different pre-gens.
Alpha Blue takes you from "PG" to "XXX" in about 12 parsecs.
@VS, I'm glad you brought up Alpha Blue, unfortunately, I have some younger players at the table and we play at a store, I heartily recommend AB, it's just not the right settting or table for it this time.
