Gaming ADD

For most of my time as a gamer, I've experienced serious Gaming Attention Deficit Disorder, and it's only been the last 6 years or so where I've been able to focus on a very narrow set of games (DnD 5E, the OSR, and Shadow of the Demon Lord).

The last few months have seem some changes and I've found myself feeling Gaming ADD again.

Currently, I'm playing in two great games with two wonderful Game Masters, a DnD 5E game and a Vampire: the Masquerade 5th Edition game.  I'm content to be a player, my life has been pretty hectic this year and it's great to just have fun on game nights without any prep work.

However, me being me, I started brainstorming a near-modern day setting with conspiracies, magic, super powers, and uplifted animals.  I've always liked Green Ronin's Adventure Game Engine and read through Modern AGE, which is excellent. However, somehow the setting reminded me of TORG and that led me to read through TORG Eternity, which is also excellent. Then, I'm looking at Champions Now playtest file, and Icons Assembled Edition.

One of the side effects of Gaming ADD for me, is focusing on system over story. So, I'm trying to work on the story first and then see what system makes sense.

Hopefully, that will keep me out of trouble, which would be nice for a change.

It’s hard to concentrate on just one game!

In my life I’ve owned many systems and played many as well. It was not until 2015 when I discoceeed there are people who played d&d like I did - OSR people - that I settled down on “some version of d&d.”

When I think up a superhero, I write him up in the HERO system. But I have not seriously considered pulling that off the shelf to run for ten years. It’s just too complicated for my tiny brain to enjoy at the table.

And that’s why d&d and esp. OSR style - it’s simple enough to run with two dice and a page worth of charts. In my old age, that’s what I need.
